| Simon Frank, Risa Horowitz, Ellen Moffat - Surface Tension |
|
Surface Tension This three-person show grouped up and coming and nationally respected artists. Risa and Ellen worked in the space. Risa presented Girl Before a Mirror, a painstaking installation of over 1500 catalogued cards. To accommodate the show NAC staff and member volunteers built two 40 foot stud and plaster walls. Ellen presented Fault Lines, an elaborate installation involving computer-manipulated sound. Simon worked outside the space, stenciling his Concrete Poetry on the sidewalks of St. Catharines along a 1.5 km route. Permission for the installation of the work, as per the City's request, was secured from each business owner along the route that weaved its was through the downtown merchant district. This was accomplished by NAC staff. In retrospect, it was something that might have been worth documenting on film, that is if anyone would like to watch one person explain the same thing over and over again to equally befuddled people.
