2. STRUTT Wearable Art Expo
Focus on STRUTT and The Sound of Light
Friday 15 November 2013
WS Tyler | Samuel Building

We’re kicking off the STRUTT Wearable Art Weekend in style on Friday 15 November with The Wearable Art Expo. It all starts at 5:30 with a free event, Focus on STRUTT. Over three hundred works of wearable art have been created for STRUTT since it first began over ten years ago and all were photographed by NAC member Brian Yungblut. This exhibit of photos captures some of the best of STRUTT.

Following the exhibit, NAC joins forces with the Wellington Court and the Gallery Players to bring you The Sound of Light: New Era Silent Films and Banquet. Enjoy a four course meal prepared by some of Niagara’s favourite chefs and get swept away in The Gallery Players’ improvised performance to Man Ray’s silent film L’Etoile de Mer (1928), all set against the industrial backdrop of the Samuel Building at WS Tyler. Tickets are limited and go for $85/ea. Or you can get a steal of a deal by purchasing the Curator’s Weekend of Wearable Art package (only available to groups of eight) for $150/person! That you gets you your table for Friday night PLUS your table for Saturday’s runway show.

All the details on Friday and Saturday night’s events can be found here.
If you have any questions, give us a call at NAC.

3. Beatuy Rest | Mori McCrae
Dennis Tourbin Members Gallery at NAC
Opening Reception Saturday 9 November at 3pm

Mori McCrae was born in Toronto in 1961. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art (Drawing and Paintiing- 1986). For the last 23 years, she has lived and worked in the Niagara Region.   She is a founding member of the Jordan Art Gallery (2001), where she currently exhibits her work. The gallery actively promotes artists from the Niagara Region. In 2011 she was awarded an artists residency at the renowned Cill Rialaig Artist Residency in Ireland where she expanded her practice to explore the limenal shift between language and image. In August of this year she attended the Sim Residency in Iceland to explore this shift further.

“My recent work marks the shift from image to word and back again. It’s a kind of sideways drift like a car leaving the pavement, or a ball joint floating in a hip socket. It feels a little wobbly, uncomfortable, and even dangerous at times.

The idea of an edge leading inward also motivates me, our breath coming from the inside, breath on which words travel to the outside and the connection of the breath to the physical body, the flesh.”
