CLIMATE CRISIS:
NIAGARA ARTISTS’ PERSPECTIVES

Call for Submissions for a Group Exhibition
In the Dennis Tourbin Members Gallery at NAC

Deadline for submissions: Friday 22 April (noon) — Earth Day

Preamble

The climate crisis has established itself as the defining issue of the 21st century. We are facing changes in our lived environment deemed unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years. These changes are rapidly becoming the focus of the international community — bringing the crisis to the forefront of global media and politics and to the lives of people across generations. And yet, great divides remain between people and nations; and there still exists strong denial of the very existence of climate change.

Why is it that, despite increasingly widespread acknowledgement of climate change and its dire consequences, we cannot bring ourselves to take the immediate action required to avert catastrophe?

Both emerging and experienced Niagara artists are invited to submit artwork expressing their perspectives on the climate crisis through painting, photography, print, and other objects of visual art including media art work as part of a group exhibition and fundraiser for Land Care Niagara.

Applicants must submit a short artist’s statement describing how their work addresses the theme (maximum 75 words), a short biography of the artist (25 words), and two to four jpeg images of their completed art work or images that illustrate their concept and/or proposal. Images are to be in colour, no larger than 2MB, and sent via email to artists@nac.org. Artists may submit no more than two art works for the consideration of the jury. All applicants must be members in good standing of the Niagara Artists Centre. There is no cost to submit. Please include, “Climate Crisis Exhibit” in the subject line of the email.
