Better Cities Film Festival – St. Catharines Edition

The Better Cities Film Festival – the world’s best short-film festival on building more healthy, sustainable and vibrant cities, towns and communities – returns on tour to St.Catharines, Saturday 5 November, 2022.

Sponsored by Better Neighbourhoods, co-programmed by the Niagara Artists Centre, and in partnership with the St.Catharines Downtown Association, this year’s films will be curated around the themes of; housing, urban design, sustainability, and arts & culture.

Bringing together industry specialists, community leaders, residents, and the development community, we invite you to share in learning about urban design, innovations in housing development, transportation, and creative strategies for addressing the challenges faced by urban communities.

Join us for a full day of activities in addition to the film screening and panel discussion, including neighbourhoods tours, an East-End St. Paul Street walkability workshop, and an after party at NAC.

10AM + 11AM Neighbourhood Walking Tours – FREE

Learn about local architecture, traditional neighbourhood design, and missing middle housing in your own community. Limited spots available. Please register for tours here.

3PM – 5PM Better Cities Film Festival Screening and Panel Discussion – PWYC

Screening at The Film House – FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre 250 St Paul St, St.Catharines ON. Tickets available through the Performing Arts Centre Box Office and are by pay-what-you-can donation (suggested $10) with proceeds to Community Care.

5:00PM – 7:30PM Better Cities After Party – FREE event with your film ticket

Ongoing / 11AM Guided Tour – East-End St. Paul Street Walkability Workshop – FREE

Want to learn to assess the walkability of a street like an urbanist? Pick up a self-guided survey anytime or join a walking workshop at 11AM to evaluate the quality of the streetscape along the East End of St. Paul Street. Surveys available for pick up from 10AM at the Niagara Artists Centre. Guided walking workshop starts at 11AM.
