Women of Resilience
Canada, 2021. Directed by Roselyn Kelada-Sedra. 44 min. NR
Women of Resilience follows the stories of four Niagara women over sixty who have faced personal traumas of war, displacement or abuse, and their journeys to healing. The documentary examines how we survive pain, hardship and the many emotional struggles that interrupt the healing design of the human brain and body and what makes women resilient.
The film is a celebration of women who let love shine through their cracks, show that broken attachments can heal, and the ability for humans to thrive through loving, secure relationships. Their open, connected hearts are the keys to their resilience.
Footage includes guided interviews with mental health professionals in discussing the challenges of broken support systems and ultimately effective coping practices.
Filmmaker Roselyn Kelada-Sedra made the film to examine personal concept of resilience. Roselyn witnessed her own mother, godmother and other women growing a new form of resilience, as they went through trauma and came through it with love.
Made in the Niagara region, Ontario, with the generous support of the Ontario Arts Council & Essential Collective Theatre, this film is an Essential Collective Theatre production, with the City of St. Catharines.
