Artists in Residence
Features of the Studios
The studios vary in size and cost and include semi-private as well as shared artist workspaces. Rents begin at $100 per month and are subsidized by an investment from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Seed Program. The studios are a communal facility of workspaces for artists and creative professionals. NAC encourages their use for innovation, collaboration, and experimentation in a variety of artistic disciplines. The studios can be used for painting, printing, photography, mixed media, and textile arts, among other art forms.
As well as studio workspaces for artists, there is a print studio equipped with serigraph and impression printing equipment. Available equipment includes:
- Ettan motorized etching press
- Four-station, four colour screen-printing machine
- Screens, inks, squeegees
- Light exposing table
- Print drying rack, stainless washout sink
- Colour laser printer
As a privilege of tenancy, studio tenants have shared use of the print studio.
The Shop has a small gallery where artwork by studio tenants is on display and available for purchase. Artwork by other NAC members is also available for sale from time-to-time. NAC members Steve and Lesley who own Roly Poly Records & Vintage and Kevin and Susan of Attic Daddy Underground also sublet space in the storefront and sell vintage clothes, jewellery, records, turntables (and new needles), posters, magazines, and books.
It’s a shop to explore with newly created works of art and recently discovered curiosities going up and coming through all the time.
The Shop is open Mondays through Saturdays 12pm until 6pm, accepts cash, Interac, and credit card. NAC members receive a 20% discount on Roly Poly items. Parking is available on Court and neighbouring streets and is free in the lot behind The Shop after 5pm and on Saturdays.
