Replica  is  a collaborative  installation of Brock University students’ work showcasing multiples of sculptures created from a variety of fabrication processes.  At first glance you will notice the many casts created time and time again from a single mold.  Each piece of work is a cast that  closely resembles the original mold from which it was created.  If you look even closer, you might catch a glimpse that this installation also captures the essence of an experimental process. Using just the packaging of the many products we purchase daily as the mold and casting plaster into them, beautiful unique shapes are revealed, obscuring or heightening the shape of the original object. Casts of original molds created by students sit alongside casts of these ubiquitous commercially available plastic molds. The casts are combined and collaged further to create shapes and patterns. Rich shadows delineate forms and silken texture of the cast plaster making up a white on white landscape inspired by the Niagara Region. As we replicated again and again, we became more cohesive as a group and feel proud to present Replica.
