Believe the HYPE!

NAC is way-upping the art collecting ante at this year’s SMALL FEATS. For the first time in the event’s five years, extraordinary works of art will be auctioned live in the midst of Saturday night’s buying frenzy!
For your bidding enjoyment NAC has procured three little beauts, (“little beauts” being the language typically used in established collecting circles to describe remarkable and sought-after works; you hear it a lot at Sotheby and Christie type auctions, the low murmur of bidders whispering to one another, “hey, there’s a little beaut”).Up for bids will be: A limited edition, hand-screened print depicting the back of St. Paul Street made from a 1972 pen and ink drawing by NAC matriarch Alice Crawley – a scene now forever changed with the development of the Meridian Centre, the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts, and the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre.
But Wait! There’s More!
We also have two ceramic works by eminent international art star Shary Boyle. Shary has won numerous national art prizes and was Canada’s representative at the Venice Biennial. She has donated two rare and recent works. They’re little beauts: A hand-painted plate commissioned by the MOCCA in T-Dot and a sculpture she conceived and created at a residency in Detroit Rock City!
All the works will be on display at SMALL FEATS tomorrow night. Norm ‘I-Got-the-Gavel’ Bradshaw will conduct a suspense-filled live auction.
The excitement’s getting so thick you could cut it with a palette knife. Just think, Art and Shopping, the world’s two favourite pastimes, blissfully united for your pleasure and edification at your friendly neighbourhood Artist-run Centre! It’s sweeter than maple syruple.
Join us Saturday Night for good times and great wine from our friends at Creekside and Henry of Pelham, and cold, delicious beer from the Oast House gang.

All the squares fell out! And landed on the Niagara Artists Centre like an anvil on a Beechwood doughnut.
We’ve spent the week at NAC accumulating near to a hectare of stare warranting art work. There’s simply no telling what exactly we’ve got, you’re going to have to see it to believe it!

The SMALL FEATS show and sale is NAC’s largest annual fundraiser and an assured rocking good time in beautiful downtown St. Catharines-on-the-parking-lot. Every year NAC challenges our artist members to create killer-diller visual art confined to an area no larger than one square foot. These are veritable OXO cubes of artistry, the sweet and condensed distillations of visual expression. They pack a wallop but they’re small enough to hang almost anywhere in your house: in the hall, beside the fridge, in front of the TV, or hey, stick one up in the car.

Every year artists respond to the call–and to the efforts and talents of their peers–and every year the show gets larger and the art gets stronger. From over 300 entries, we’re going to skim the cream off of the top and show and sell the best 150. A preview of the show goes online next week at

On Saturday 11 April, NAC’s Dennis Tourbin Members Gallery at 354 St. Paul will be rammed with art, all of it selling for the paltry sum of $200 per. Each of the contributing artists has generously chosen to split half or donate all of the proceeds to NAC, their friendly neighbourhood, charitably registered artist-run centre.
