The Last Pogo and The Last Pogo Jumps Again
Film Screening – Saturday 22 February 7:00pm

$10 in advance / $12 at the door
Tickets available at NAC

THE LAST POGO (1978)
THE LAST POGO documents the raucous 1978 punk concert held in Toronto’s legendary Horseshoe Tavern-a night of unhinged music and unbridled mayhem. On the bill were seminal bands from Toronto’s punk rock scene: The Scenics, The Cardboard Brains, The Secrets, The Mods, The Ugly, The Viletones and Teenage Head. During the concert, the frenetic energy of 800+ thrashing fans in the club boiled over and a near-riot ensued. Filmmaker Colin Brunton was there with a camera crew to capture it all, from the irreverent punk musicians and the slam-dancing audience to the police who tried to stop the show and the firefighters called in to escort people from the premises.

THE LAST POGO JUMPS AGAIN (2013)
A history of the first wave of Toronto punk rock and new wave music, from when the Ramones played in 1976 through to when the cops gave Teenage Head the boot at “The Last Pogo” concert in 1978.

The filmmaker will be on hand for a Q&A session and there will be beer!

Elusive
Brock University, Photo-Based Drawing Exihibit
Mahtay Café – 241 St. Paul Street

Opening Reception:
Saturday 8 February at 7:00pm

A universally relatable motif, the body, as both subject and object in contemporary art is a complicated thing. Through using the body an artist can quickly, and effectively, convey meaning within their work. Though despite, and in part because, of its universality, the body can be a difficult and dangerous tool as well. Can the body be used without exploiting the subject? Without sexualizing the subject? Without objectifying the subject? As nothing but an outward visage the body conceals so much within, potentially misleading outside viewers and leaving all true meaning elusive. What implications are inherent to the human body, if any, and how can these be shaped, changed, and developed by the artist? Elusive explores all this while asking the viewer to question for themselves what the body means to them.
