Two part time NAC jobs

NAC’s shared studio and retail space project is underway! Thanks to funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation NAC Member artists are moving into our new facility on St. Paul Street. We’re building a print studio that’ll be available for rent to all NAC Members in the New Year and we’re setting up a retail shop geared to open just in time for the holidays.

In order to make it happen we’re hiring two part-time positions to run the space for the first year of the project.

RETAIL MANAGER
20hrs / week
Responsibilities include (and not limited to):

  • Design and implement the creation of an attractive retail space for the sale of art work by NAC members.
  • Work with studio tenants to organize and promote receptions, open houses, special exhibitions, and studio visits.
  • Manage social media platforms for the promotion of studio storefront events and activities as well as the work of studio tenants.
  • Manage the refurbishment of the studio storefront and facade in cooperation with the property owner.
  • Develop mechanisms for the sale of art work by studio tenants and NAC members at the studios.
  • Refine NAC’s online sales platform and populate it with art work by NAC members. This will include developing systems for transactions and the delivery of art work to purchasers.a
  • Develop an art rental program for the leasing of art work by NAC members to private residences and businesses.
  • Develop a policies and procedures manual for the sustainable operations of the physical and online retail spaces by studio tenants and NAC members.
  • Share the responsibility of establishing hours for the studio retail space with the cooperation of studio tenants. Facilitate discussion and build through consensus systems for how the studio retail hours will be kept.
  • Develop opportunities for the sub-leasing and consignment of the studio retail space, as well as develop a selections process for the consignment of art work by non-tenant NAC members.
  • Report to board of directors and work under the direct supervision of the Minister of Energy Minds and Resources and the Minister of Communications

STUDIO MANAGER
20hrs / week
Responsibilities include (and not limited to):

  • Provide support to the studio tenants and lease with the property owner regarding the maintenance loo the physical spaces.
  • Manage security of the building, distribute keys, manage pass codes for studio access.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the studio property, clean and remove debris from the exterior of the building including snow removal and salting.
  • Act as the liaison between tenants and between tenants and the property owner to ensure a safe and clean environments conducive to the creation of art work.
  • Manage the sub-leasing of the studio spaces, issuing leases, maintaining records and collecting
  • rents.
  • Manage and promote (in cooperation with the store manager) the rental of the print studio.
  • Manage and maintain the print studio so that it is equipped and functional.
  • Contribute to the policy and procedures manual system for the management and sustainability of the print studio.
  • Assist the store manager in the design of the storefront facade.
  • Provide light construction skills for the installation and building of store fixture, facade improvements working closely with the store manager to install artworks for the purpose of exhibit, display and special events.
  • Work with artists to develop the policies that will guide the harmonious collective use of the shared studio space so that it will be conducive to the creation of artwork for all tenants.
  • Manage the utilities (water, electricity, internet) for functionality and in the interest of conservation.
  • Install artwork in businesses and private residences for the art rental program.
  • Report to board of directors and work under the direct supervision of the Minister of Energy Minds and Resources and the Minister of Communications

MEDIA WORKSHOPS
Attention: Technically Qualified Digital Video Artists

The Niagara Artists Centre will be hosting a series of workshops in October and November to foster expertise for Niagara-based digital video artists. The workshops, funded by NIC (Niagara Investment in Culture), will bring the expertise of staff from Keyframe Digital to lead Niagara-based video artists in learning the required skills for large-scale digital video and media projection projects. The topics covered in these workshops are: pixel-mapping, knowledge about the specific codecs and file formats required for large scale digital video art installation, formatting and porting video files from one platform to installation specific parameters, as well as use of digital video manipulation software at an advanced level.

These workshops will be run to provide the requisite information for participation in a large-scale digital video projection project. The workshops are designed to help produce material that will be projected on the Oakes Hotel in Niagara Falls. The Winter Festival of Lights has purchased the equipment and recruited the technical services to present large format video projection on the side of the building.

QUALIFICATIONS
In order to participate in these workshops, participants must be established digital video artists who have expertise and fluency in the use of Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, Adobe Photoshop, The Foundry’s Nuke Studio, After Effects, or other significantly sophisticated digital media manipulation editing and production suite, as well as a body of digital video work for consideration for and/or use in the workshops.

SCHEDULE

In the Soil Arts Festival is now accepting applications for the 9th annual multidisciplinary artsfestival set to take over downtown St. Catharines from 28-30 April 2017.

Artists of all levels of experience are invited to apply. This year, In the Soil will present 150+ dance, film, media, music, theatre and interdisciplinary works over the 3-day festival. We are seeking out new artistic work and out-of-the-box ideas. We want you to dream big with us as we create a happening in downtown St. Catharines like no other.

Celebrating its 9th year, In the Soil Arts Festival brings new and unique art experiences to audiences with an original program of live theatre, poetry, music, dance, media and special streetscape and interactive art throughout the St. Catharines downtown core. Last year over 500 artists and 5000 festival patrons came together to celebrate the arts of Niagara and beyond. This year, we continue in our aim to contribute to a Niagara that is self-determining and culturally distinct.

Downtown St. Catharines is in the midst of a renaissance with the completion of new dedicated facilities for the performing arts. The festival has already begun developing plans with Brock’s Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts and the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and looks forward to exploring these state of the art buildings for the 2016 edition.
