From a documentary filmmaker who has shaped conceptions of the American experience comes a film about the racially and ethnically diverse neighborhood of Jackson Heights in Queens, New York. In Jackson Heights won the 2015 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Non-Fiction Film. Programmed to help kick off the Niagara Folk Arts Festival!

Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien wowed this year’s Cannes Film Festival (where he won Best Director) with his awe-inspiring film The Assassin – a wondrous take on the traditional wuxia film. This is a martial arts film like none made before.

This debut feature focuses on how three teens cope with boredom by testing the limits of their experience while spending the summer in cottage country on the shores of Lake Superior. The Globe and Mail calls it  “a drama of honesty and sincerity, slimmed down to its most central, raw elements” while the Toronto Star calls it “the best Canadian film of the year.”
