The Niagara Artists Centre (NAC) is launching a community art project–WANDERMENT: Thoughts of Home. It is part of the Mighty Niagara Film Fest, a series of film screenings taking place outdoors this summer.

We are probably more acquainted with our homes than ever before. So much of our living, working, and entertaining now takes place in the spaces we call home. So what does home mean to you?

NAC wants to explore ideas of home collectively. We have created a project to present family photos and home-movies in a large, collaged video installation tentatively scheduled to be presented outdoors in downtown St. Catharines this summer.

Share with us family snaps, old 35mm slides, or VHS home movies that hold meaning for you about what home was or what it has come to mean to you now. These images will be presented anonymously and will be combined with others to create a kaleidoscope of images of home.

Imagery stored in out-dated media formats will be digitized (as a service to participants) and integrated into a glowing, animated, psychedelic conglomerate of memory and sentiment collectively expressing a shared idea of ‘home’.

This is a great opportunity to turn your home into an archaeological excavation site. Dig through your closets. Discover and preserve your family’s home movies. We’re accepting up to ten still images and footage up to five minutes in length.

We’re accepting all types of media! Still images (snapshots, prints, digital photographs, and 35mm negatives and slides) and moving images (16mm, 8mm and super8 film, VHS, and various digital media). Please contact us to discuss what transfers are possible.
